FAQs

  • How strict are your check-in and check-out times? We ask that you treat the times up there like a mitzvot d'oraita. Our cleaning crews often need every available minute between guests. That said, we can “poskin” earlier or later times on a case-by-case basis when we don’t have another guest adjacent to your reservation.
  • What is your pet policy? For an additional fee, we allow up to two dogs. No lizards, fish, rabbits or cats.
  • Is there wifi? High Speed broadband is available throughout the house. Login details are posted on the fridge. You can also scan the QR code on the fridge for automatic connection.
  • Will my cell phone have signal at Kosher Cove? For better or worse, all major carriers have signal at the home.
  • What is your kashrus policy? We do our best to maintain a home and kitchen that conforms to Orthodox standards. We are not under the supervision of any kashrus agencies. Kosher Cove is only rented to those known to be shomer-kashrus, though we do not require that for additional guests. For example: Guests may invite their non-observant parents to stay with them and we trust that the primary guests will maintain appropriate standards as they would in their own homes. For your convenience in choosing milk or meat, the oven is run through a self-clean cycle after each guest.
  • What kosher food can we purchase locally? There are two modern, well-stocked Ingles supermarkets within a 10 minute drive. They carry the basic kosher foods one would find at any modern supermarket with the exception of kosher meat, cheese, or wine. Kosher Cove is stocked with kosher wine available for purchase at $18/bottle.
  • Are there any liquor stores nearby? The closest is Clay County ABC Store, which is about a 10 minute drive.
  • What supplies do you provide for Shabbos? Tea lights, hot water urn, crock pot, Shabbos safe electric hot plate, kiddush cup, challah board, bentchers, and Havdalah set. For more details on amenities, please choose “Overview” from this site’s main menu and scroll down below the pictures.
  • Is there a minyan in the local area? Only when visiting with 10 men.
  • Is there an Eruv? Yes, but we tell our neighbors it is to help the UFOs land. We built it under the guidance of a qualified rabbi. We maintain it on our own. It is inspected periodically, but not necessarily every week. If you plan to hold by the eruv, we suggest you conduct your own pre-Shabbos inspection.
  • Is there a BBQ grill? Does a one-legged duck swim in a circle? There are two grills on the screened-in porch. One is propane gas and the other charcoal. Please supply your own charcoal if that is your preferred grill. A dairy bbq grill is also available if that is your thing, (and we know it is). Please contact us for guidance on where to find it.
  • Is there a crib or pack-n-play available for use? There is a pack-n-play available in the downstairs utility room to the right of the fridge.
  • Can we arrange for Amazon or other deliveries to the house? Absolutely, just be mindful that delivery might take a day or two longer than it does in the big city. Our mailing address is posted on the kitchen fridge.
  • How does the lake weather compare to Atlanta? The temperature is usually three to eight degrees cooler, morning fog off the lake is common, the air is much cleaner, and it seems like the mountains cause summer afternoon thunderstorms to pop up a little quicker. It snows more than it does in Atlanta, but that does not mean it snows a lot. Use any weather app for zip code 30582 to see the short-term forecast.
  • Can we go fishing on the lake? Do you provide gear? Lake Chatuge boasts some of the best fishing in Georgia. Please bring your own gear from home or buy it locally. Fishing from our dock with a small hook and bread will often catch sunnies (i.e. Bream, Bluegill). They do have fins and scales. Going after bass or larger fish will typically require a more sophisticated approach.
  • Do you provide life jackets? You are welcome to use anything from our selection of popular sizes. They are in the downstairs utility room hanging to the right. Unfortunately, we do not have sizes XS or XXL.
  • Does Kosher Cove provide a boat or jet skis? No, but there are several vendors around the lake that will rent out equipment that you can find on the internet. You are welcome to use our dock at your own risk if the rental company allows docking.
  • How private is the swimming pool? There are no partitions around the swimming area that would make it 100% private. However, the nearest neighbors are a nice, retired couple two lots over. The folks boating on the lake could technically look at the pool area, but are notoriously more interested in a nice bass.
  • Do you provide enough firepit wood to satiate my children’s pyromaniac tendencies? Your kid? Maybe not– but for the average pyro–we provide firewood for use in the firepit near the lake. Please monitor children and keep the fires contained in the firepit only. BYOM! (marshmallows).
  • Are there things to do in winter? There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes. Most of the activities available in the summer remain available in the winter. The major exceptions are that our pool is closed, and the lake is too cold for sane people to get in the water. Boat rentals remain available from various providers throughout the year. Our outdoor hot tub is available year-round. Most area activities and points of interest are open on all days that end in y.
  • Are there other nearby rentals where we could put the in-laws or other overflow guests? Yes, The Ridges Resort is approximately half a mile from Kosher Cove. There are also a few nearby Airbnbs.
  • What supplies does Kosher Cove provide? We are pleased to offer a comprehensive starter kit of essential supplies, including two rolls of paper towels, tissues, and shampoo/soap in each bathroom. Additionally, we provide trash bags, toilet paper, cleaning sponges, laundry and dishwasher pods. Please note that we are unable to provide paper/plastic products, foil, and similar items, so we recommend bringing your own as needed.
