The closest whitewater rafting is on the Nantahala. More adventurous (not recommended for younger children) whitewater rafting is found on the Ocoee. Kosher Cove also has two kayaks and one standup paddleboard available for guest use on the lake. Guests must wear a personal flotation device.

North Georgia is known as having some of the leading trout rivers in the country. Local fishing guides are available year-round to teach you to fly fish and take you to their favorite spots. If fly fishing isn't your thing, basic fishing rods and tackle can be found in Kosher Cove's utility room. Worms, crickets, or bread usually work well as bait and fishing off the dock is often successful. Please keep in mind, a valid Georgia Fishing Licenses may be required and more info can be found at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Hiking & Mountain Biking (10 to 60 minutes)
Being surrounded by the Appalachian Mountains gives you the opportunity to explore countless miles of hiking trails and amazing waterfalls! Please review our books for details and directions. Just a few nearby highlights:

  • Waterfalls are awesome almost any time of the year.
  • Brasstown Bald (35 minutes) - Highest peak in GA at 4,784 feet above sea level. Two strenuous trails provide hiker access from the base or you can drive most of the way to the top and then hike or take a bus for the last 0.6 mile. Make sure to check road status prior to winter visits. Snow/ice occasionally close roads.
  • Walk across the dam that creates Lake Chatuge.
  • Headwaters of the Chattahoochee where you can literally jump over the river.
  • At 2,167 miles, the Appalachian Trail is the world's longest continuous hiking trail that is maintained and marked. Various nearby segments make for good day hikes.
  • Murphy River Walk (30 minutes) – Approximately three miles (one way) of maintained trails, most of which are adjacent to a river that traverses through Murphy, NC.

Jackrabbit Mountain Biking Trail (20 minutes)
This is an awesome, purpose-built trail system in a "stacked loop" configuration. The trails themselves are mostly fast, with lots of rolling dips and berms, and a few technical areas. They take you along the shores and hills beside Lake Chatuge.  Guests are welcome to use the bicycles in the garage provided you are willing to assume all risks and liabilities. This means that if you get hurt you won’t sue us and if you break something you’ll fix it.

Local Towns & Shopping

Helen (30 minutes)
It’s tacky and it’s touristy, but people still like this imitation Bavarian village.

Most nearby towns have some common chain stores and basic supplies. Hiawassee is the nearest to Kosher Cove. Blue Ridge and Helen are two of the better locations to enjoy walking amongst the stores.
